about
A catchy satirical song about modern day Amsterdam
'Bakfiets' is the Dutch word for a cargo bike, literally 'box-bike'. A bakfiets has been a common feature of Dutch society for centuries.
The old school box-bikes were chunky, punky and earthy whereas these days the modern snazzy, often electric, equivalent has become as much about saving your social status as saving the planet.
Of course, bikes are cool, and anything that helps reduce petrol guzzling vehicles can only be good but, hey, fads and trends are always good for satire and comedy.
Thanks to all our friends, fans and colleagues in the music and comedy worlds and of course all the ‘bakfietsmamas ’everywhere. We love you, really!
lyrics
(( Terms: Bakfiets- cargo Bike Omafiets- granny bike))
She’s a bakfiets mama the terror of the town
Bakfiets mama as she mows the punters down She’s a bakfiets mama She’s a bakfiets mama
She’s the bane of Amsterdam from Westerpark to Centrum
The only reason she’s got kids: it gives her more momentum
The only reason she’s got sprogs, only reason she’s got brats
Is for flattening your granny’s dog and for killing all those tourist twats
She’s a bakfiets mama the terror of the town. Bakfiets mama as she mows the punters down She’s a bakfiets mama
She’s a bakfiets mama she’s a hawk and you’re a sparrow
You’ve only got an oma-fiets, she’s got an Urban Arrow
She’s a bakfiets mama she whizzes by and laughs
She’s a bakfiets mama, a psychopath on the cycle path
She’s a bakfiets mama, the terror of the town a bakfiets mama as she mows the punters down
She’s a bakfiets mama She’s a bakfiets mama
She’s like Ben Hur in a chariot so fast you hardly see her
She’s actually called Harriet but thinks she’s Boadicea
I’m waiting for the day when she has blades as well as spokes
Come to Amsterdam and say: ‘Look at all the legless tourist blokes’
She’s a bakfiets mama – she mows the tourists down- some of them are so freaked out they jump in the canal and drown!
She’s a bakfiets mama She’s a bakfiets mama
She’s a bakfiets mama, the terror of the town a bakfiets mama as she mows the punters down
She’s a bakfiets mama She’s a bakfiets mama
